Lithuania, located in Eastern Europe, is officially known as the Republic of Lithuania. It is a member of the European Union. It has also joined NATO, like other Central European nations. To make the market economy of the country stronger, Lithuania joined the World Bank in 1992. The chief crops of the country include: grain, potatoes, sugar beets, flax and vegetables. Main industries are: refrigerators and freezers, electric motors, television sets, petroleum refining, shipbuilding (small ships), furniture making, textiles, food processing, fertilizers, metal-cutting machine tools, electronic components, agricultural machinery, optical equipment, computers and amber jewelry. |
